Brown Berets
The Brown Berets Started In East Los Angeles Around The Time Of The East La Blowouts.In 1967,A Group Of Student Garfield High School,And Lincoln High School Started To Meet Together.They Called Themselves The Young Chicanos For Community Action.This Group Wanted Better Education In School And To Be Treated Better At Schools.In 1968,The Group Transformed Into The Brown Berets.Also In 1968,The Students Started Organized Walkouts To Protest The Schools.The Brown Berets,Led By Two Students,Carlos Montes And David Sanchez,Protected The Protesting Students From Police That Had A History Of Beating The Students.Carlos Montes Had Previously Lived In South Central,And Worked Closely With The Black Panthers.He Set Up The East La Free Clinic For Heathcare And A Breakfast Program That Was Similar To The Black Panthers.The Brown Berets Also Worked With Fred Hampton In Chicago.The Group Tried To Take Over Catalina Island,But Started To Fall Apart Because Of Division In The Group.
